Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve final poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest gamblers in the world. While playing online poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world could be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be found playing web poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in high stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in cash rounds?
