Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve closing poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best enthusiasts around the world. While wagering on online poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world may be players you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen betting on web poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in cash rounds?
